Congenital leg shortening #3

Clinical Condition

In a 40-year-old patient, a car accident resulted in a right femur fracture and a shortening of 25 mm. In order to avoid a misalignment of the spine, the patient had to have a sole elevation fitted every time he bought shoes. The patient presented at ZEM-Germany with the question if everything could be as it was before the accident.

Treatment

Two special features were groundbreaking in this case. First, although the broken leg was shortened, the leg axis was perfectly straight, so that no correction was required here. Secondly, the patient was rather tall at 187 cm, and from his point of view rather "too" tall. Nothing was therefore more obvious than to shorten the left thigh, which was then also performed at ZEM-Germany. Stabilization until bone healing took place with a solid titanium intramedullary nail, which could then be removed again.

Result

After completing the treatment, the patient not only had two legs of the same length, but also a new height of 185.5 cm and reports that things are not only the same for him as before the accident, but even better.
